Epoxy Resin and Hardener Details
Epoxy resin is a type of synthetic thermosetting polymer. It is usually used with a hardener to create a strong and durable material. When the resin and hardener are mixed together in the correct ratio, a chemical reaction occurs. This reaction causes the mixture to harden into a solid plastic-like substance.
Components
Mixing Ratio
The ratio of resin to hardener must be followed as per manufacturer instructions. The most common ratios are one to one or two to one by volume or weight.
Working Time
Once mixed, the epoxy has a limited time before it starts to harden. This is called the pot life or working time and can range from a few minutes to a couple of hours.
Curing Time
Full curing may take several hours to a few days depending on the product and temperature. Some epoxies can be heat cured to speed up the process.
