Epoxy Art Resin Details
Definition
Epoxy art resin is a two part liquid material made from a resin and a hardener. When mixed together in the correct ratio, it undergoes a chemical reaction that turns it into a hard, clear, and durable solid. It is commonly used in art and crafts to create a glossy finish and is also used in coating paintings, creating jewelry, or embedding objects.
Components
Mixing Ratio: Typically one to one by volume, but this may vary depending on the manufacturer. Always follow the specific instructions provided with the product.
Working Time: Also called pot life, this is the amount of time you have to work with the resin after mixing. Usually ranges from twenty to forty minutes depending on temperature and brand.
Curing Time: The full cure time can take up to seventy two hours. The surface may feel dry after twelve to twenty four hours, but full hardness and durability are achieved later.
Appearance: Epoxy resin dries to a glossy and clear finish. It can be tinted with pigments, dyes, or alcohol inks to create different colors and effects.
Surface Use: Can be poured over canvas, wood, glass, ceramic, and metal surfaces. The surface should be clean, dry, and level before application.
Heat Resistance: Once cured, some art resins can resist heat up to around ninety degrees Celsius. However, it is not recommended for use on surfaces that will regularly be exposed to high temperatures.
Safety Precautions
Common Uses
