What is Crystal Clear Epoxy?
Crystal clear epoxy is a two-part thermosetting resin system, consisting of:
Resin (Part A)
Hardener (Part B)
When mixed in a specific ratio (commonly 1:1 or 2:1 by volume or weight), they chemically react and cure into a hard, glass-like, transparent solid.
🔸 Key Properties
Property Details
Clarity Water-clear transparency; UV-stabilized versions resist yellowing.
Durability High impact resistance, scratch resistance (with topcoat or polishing).
Adhesion Bonds well to wood, metal, concrete, plastic, glass.
Finish Glossy, high-gloss surface; can be sanded and polished.
Cure Time 12–72 hours depending on product and temperature.
Viscosity Usually low to medium (easy to pour and self-level).
Working Time 20–45 minutes pot life, depending on batch size and temperature.
UV Resistance Varies—some include UV inhibitors (important for outdoor use).
Heat Resistance Up to ~120–150°F (50–65°C); higher with post-cure or additives.
🔸 Common Applications
Woodworking & River Tables
Fills voids, knots, or entire slabs.
Creates a “floating glass” effect on wood.
Jewelry Making & Casting
Encapsulates flowers, insects, glitter, etc.
Ideal for small molds and artistic crafts.
Bar & Countertops
Durable, glossy surface for bars, tables, and kitchen counters.
Art & Resin Painting
Used for geode art, fluid art, and coatings.
Encapsulation & Protective Coating
Covers photos, signs, coins, electronics, and more.
🔸 Tips for Working with Crystal Clear Epoxy
Mixing Ratio
Follow the manufacturer’s ratio exactly (often 1:1 or 2:1). Incorrect ratio causes tackiness or weak cure.
Mixing Technique
Stir slowly (2–3 minutes) to reduce air bubbles. Scrape sides and bottom thoroughly.
Temperature
Ideal: 70–80°F (21–27°C). Cold temps can slow cure and cause cloudiness or bubbles.
Surface Prep
Clean, dry, and sand (if needed) to improve adhesion.
Pouring Depth
Some are "deep-pour" (up to 2"+), others are thin-pour only (1/8" to 1/4"). Know your product.
Bubble Removal
Use a heat gun or torch briefly over the surface to pop air bubbles.
UV Protection
If used in sunlight, choose UV-resistant epoxy or add a UV-protective topcoat.
